Weekly Blog Post 1-29-10

This week in science we were doing experiments to see if a well was contaminated or not. We had to figure out which numbers were contaminated but out of the 40 we only got 12 so it was basically like a guessing game. Just like in the game battleship we had to guess which numbers were and werent contaminated. Once we did this we made a plume of which ones were highly contaminated. Then friday we did an experiment to see if you can dilute a solution and get rid of it. We found out that you can not dilute a solution and get rid of the solution.

Mercury Contaminent

Every time we did do a lab in a science class with a thermometer the teachers always say to make sure not to break it because of it's harmful affect. It suprises me that its in our air and food and that alot of us have it in our bodys. Fish are the most common way we get it into our systems by which it was first toxic to them. Also it affects your whole body more or less depinding on how much you injest. It affects younger children more than older people but we should keep watching out for how much it contains. It even kills animals that are exposed to enough. At least someone is trying to reduce the amount of mercury in our food, water and air.

Aquifier Lab Weekly Post

This week in science i was absent all week except for lab. We simulated an aquifier which helped me more understand what it is and how it works. By adding water to the rocks we found the water table and found out that the large rocks have more porosity and therefore is a better aquifier.

Week#18 Blog Post

This last week in science the main thing that i got out of everything we learned is all about surface tension. Using the penny we put water droplets on it to show its surface tension and that helped me understand why the lizard we watched a video on could walk on water. The lab im sorry to say didnt really teach me anything whatsoever. I also learned the 6 forms of energy which are Nuclear, Radiant, Thermal, Chemical, Mechanical(potential and kenetic) and Electrical.
