Hydrogen Fuel Cells-Video Blog
Hydrogen's made when the sun's flare fuses. Hydrogen is more efficient then gas and in about 5 years or so hydrogen fuel cell cars are going to start being sold. The car's wouldn't necessarily be cheap they would be around a million dollars but the hydrogen instead of gas you would get it for a lot cheaper. On one tank of gas you would get about 140 miles and it doesn't smell like gas does. Also if the car caught fire then the fire would go up and away instead of catching the car on fire. The only concerns are of safety and if it would be more safe then gas. Also it works better as pure hydrogen rather than hydrogen mixed with the by-product of water. They also talked about solar panels in the video and how the new solar panels work in dimmer light but the flaw of them is that they don't work very good in bright sunlight. The next big thing would be for them to create a solar panel that would work in complete darkness and work in bright sunlight.

Weekly Blog Post 1-29-10
This week in science we were doing experiments to see if a well was contaminated or not. We had to figure out which numbers were contaminated but out of the 40 we only got 12 so it was basically like a guessing game. Just like in the game battleship we had to guess which numbers were and werent contaminated. Once we did this we made a plume of which ones were highly contaminated. Then friday we did an experiment to see if you can dilute a solution and get rid of it. We found out that you can not dilute a solution and get rid of the solution.

Mercury Contaminent
Every time we did do a lab in a science class with a thermometer the teachers always say to make sure not to break it because of it's harmful affect. It suprises me that its in our air and food and that alot of us have it in our bodys. Fish are the most common way we get it into our systems by which it was first toxic to them. Also it affects your whole body more or less depinding on how much you injest. It affects younger children more than older people but we should keep watching out for how much it contains. It even kills animals that are exposed to enough. At least someone is trying to reduce the amount of mercury in our food, water and air.

Aquifier Lab Weekly Post
This week in science i was absent all week except for lab. We simulated an aquifier which helped me more understand what it is and how it works. By adding water to the rocks we found the water table and found out that the large rocks have more porosity and therefore is a better aquifier.

Week#18 Blog Post
This last week in science the main thing that i got out of everything we learned is all about surface tension. Using the penny we put water droplets on it to show its surface tension and that helped me understand why the lizard we watched a video on could walk on water. The lab im sorry to say didnt really teach me anything whatsoever. I also learned the 6 forms of energy which are Nuclear, Radiant, Thermal, Chemical, Mechanical(potential and kenetic) and Electrical.

Why do teens commit suicide?
An article reviewed by Matthew K. Knock called "Suicide" explains the reasons behind suicide. Many people believe that suicide is something that has been running through that person who commits suicides, head all their life and that they planned it for that particular night. This is a possibility , but most cases that's not how it's going to turn out. The kids who are most likely to commit suicide, are those who you would never expect to do so. None of them really want to die, they only want to escape from terrible situations at home, school or anywhere. The reason why most people are able to deal with everything is because the majority of suicidal teens have depression. What does depression do to people? The answer is it forces teens to focus on the negative side of everything and not think about ways to reverse the negative side. Suicide isn't anything to make fun of or forget about, there is a reason for it and its not just to get attention. It is to get a message across that you need help. If it gets to the point of death, then no one was there to help.

Knowing VS. Thinking for Yourself
In Tony Wagner's article "Rigor Redefined" ,the point he is trying to get across, is that students need to start thinking for themselves. This gets me into a question for you, the reader,
have you ever sat in a classroom and thought, I know this information, because the teacher taught it to me, but, if she hadn't, would i still be able to figure it out? It will never help students if they are always "spoon fed" the answers. Jobs now don't require you to know, they require you to think and to question. Although, the problem is, we would have to, pretty much recreate the curriculum in schools, to have this plan work out. It would have a lot of benefits, such as, better careers, better lives, and less stress. Also it would force us as students to figure out the problems were given, and not be shown how to solve it by a teacher. Now, since there is a lot more information out in the world, were beginning to know less and less about past and present information. If we knew how to question and solve problems then we would be able to catch up faster with information that's out in the world. I agree with Wagner's beliefs, strongly, because knowing doesn't help anyone but analyzing problems for yourself does. All in all it would make a huge, positive impact on students today, if schools taught classrooms in this way.
